We worked with Origins briefly in 2019, and did 3 rapid-fire campaigns with them - about 300 total deliverables for OLV and digital usage, among a few other spec projects. Keeping everything consistent and organized across all those units is a task - you find an issue in one file, you’re going to find it in many others; sometimes all! This project also fully introduced me to some of the more nuanced quirks of the Adobe suite, which was valuable in future projects. They were fun spots to work on, and the “organic” feeling of the brand was light and pretty inviting to have to QC dozens of times.
Side Note: Origins was the first ever wellness brand sold in U.S. department stores.
Clear Improvements
This was the first project we worked on with Origins, and probably the most significant to me. Right before finishing and delivering the cuts, we ran into a problem with the product shot and trying to make some adjustments on the cream. We had a PA on the time named Yves Pasquarelli who had an appetite for After Effects, and he took a shot that ended up being just the ticket we needed, just in time to make delivery. I would go on to work directly with Yves for the better part oft the next decade, and it became a valuable relationship.
GinZing
GOOOOOOD MORNING!! This cut has some kick to it! Energy from the first frame to the last. I’m a big fan of the graphics/art in this cut - playful, loose, a little weird; they complement the “caffeine shot” in this edit nicely. The look of the overall color palette is really nice here, too, - hues of oraange and brown that are consistent in the graphics, CG shots, product shots, and even on camera talent. It makes the spot feel that it has a real identity.
Mega Mushroom
Mega Mushroom, while also having the coolest name, was a more elegant, subtle, atmospheric project than most of our other edits for Origins. Everything is airier and almost a little surreal, which might be a nod to the “mushroom” aspect, ha. It’s always cool to see how much music can influence a cut too - the visuals do their part, but the feeling and “delicateness” that you get from the edit owes itself largely to the ethereal keys in the background.
